in that squeamish land below the couch
growling ensues, then yowling
seconds later, victorious
our gallant kitten hauls their treat
a tender spot of meat
stolen from the dust bunnies
who, with neither shame nor care
retreat to hunt the hollows again
some chamber space in the walls
producing endless delicious sweetness
