somewhere in the silent underbelly of the couch
breeze shivers fringe, an amorphous belling
furniture gaining that cat-threatening life-state
imbuing all present with the fear, the cold hunger
leaving behind two feline contrails, a shattered glass
Friday’s papers scattered back to Tuesday’s shuffle
discombobulating our coupon-counting ways
