The Friendly Heat

there is some heat
in the way that getting nose-poked
by a stainless-steel puppy
the size of a house
is a bit personal

we’re both happy
we’re both exhausted
and we’ve gone through
all the towels
at once

this damp bed
is no longer remotely acceptable
and the lake keeps calling
one stealthy slumber
at a time
