remember then, the yearning
to breath free, taken
in the name of absolute nowt
reclassifying population
eradicated in careless abandon
as databases closed down
agencies disavowed, terminated
as all of us, breathing
just a bit less, never surfacing

a number – many – vanishing
not by volume, but by obscurity
