if I might find the small damp cave
you’ve carved to put my personhood in
that none might ever see it, claiming
in that limestone and water abyss
my protection has been forthcoming

there I would lay my charges
draw the line, lean into the plunger
humming some half-forgotten impedance
that I might again, finally, find starlight
even should I take me with it
