A Brief Shunning
December 21, 2024

at the foot of my bed
the cat that isn’t there
lingers as the sound
of shoulder washing

a brief shunning
earned in over-cuddles

where resentful
my allergies fought
getting their dander up
snuggle, sneeze, sneeze

a brief shunning
repaired from after

rolling back over
the kitten leaps
tackles the empty
and wipes out

a brief shunning
where they’ve been
