composed entirely of burnished concrete
these porch steps exemplify not brutalism
but mildly uncomfortable regret modern
a plateau of enjoyment so far below porch
one might dig hourly for twenty years
before surfacing among gardenias
signing indicating handicapped accessibility
in but one downward plunged direction
invading flower bed before compliance
runs out
