carving a new pen is two stages of grief
exhuming iaido’s devastating awareness
knees, feather, flicker, fallen beta-keratin
measured strokes grinding ink’s negation
felling what’s coming, what’s happened
discarded nub smoking chimney, passing
passers-by murmuring authority’s burns
by word and by swallow’s wisp-azure
notice neither sweep nor unfeeling chill
