our void, who holds in its hearts, our hearts
requires careful pettins, edge management
that we not snuggle the wrong bit of the gate
late nights, while we wait for each other, them
by doorways and cobblestones, intaking birds
us, by bedside, outputting last pre-sleep treats
our post-fall companion offers empty belly
