there’s always been an enemy declared
in ambiguity, in specificity, flowers
we might wear in silken tresses, saying

gimme

leaning into brushing, curling ego
playground children signing up, don’t push
to be the bigger, be the biggest

gimme

some of us, hair done at home, our own
cooking, our own loving, know it’s coming
that it’s us, always been us, rolling up
