Started work on the second book of Patent Absurdities. Somewhere between satirical commentary on old patents, and satirical commentary on current events. The word “between” is carrying a lot of weight here.
Me: “Well, that’s a bit like disturbing propaganda posters.”
Brain: “More disturbing, YES, our Precious.”
Process: Export an image from a PDF of a scanned patent. Digitally re-ink it, fit it to page-size (11x17 inches, doubles as small poster size), color gradient it, randomize the hue on a per instance basis, invert it to get the black inking to white, lay the frame over it, add copyright text - which is for the inking, commentary text, layout, color, etc. - and then do an 80% black overlay in the top frame. Fill that with the commentary text.
A bunch of other fiddly stuff in the background, mostly to do with coding in .jsx to get the inking and coloration shifts correct.
