Retirement Loom

in supervising drunks and children
once it might have been said unkindly
I found children better mannered
whereas now, in times of quicksand
I find both clams equally vocal
equally buried under stilled harbor flats
yelling in wet eructation
while those sober and aged among us
repine in equally silted salted waters
