we’re on the letter L, capital
start of the sentence we’re backing out of
knife on old skin, lifting ink

we’re on the latter tell, story
start of the world we’ve forgiven, forgoing
knife careful to surface, lilting

we’re one letter away, repaid
start of the emergence we’re sinking into
knife set beside plume, lifting ink
